The Nixon group is studying various aspects of solar energy conversion by chloroplasts and cyanobacteria. Research areas include:

1. Enhancing the light reactions of photosynthesis

2. The assembly and repair of photosystem II and the biogenesis of the thylakoid membrane

3. Cyanobacterial and chloroplast synthetic biology

4. Sustainable protein production
