TEACHING INTERESTS
Current teaching involves final year projects in the area of Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), a topic that Peter introduced to the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2009. The projects are student led with topics selected on the basis of submitted proposals and motivational statements. The projects have proved popular with typically more applicants than can be accommodated. A total of 102 final year projects and some MSc projects have been supervised. Examples of energy based LCAs include: Assessment of Tidal Power Installations (2011); Assessment of Renewable Fuel Technologies (2012); A Review of Storage Options for Renewable Energy use at The Raglan Mine in Canada (2015); Assessment of Waste to Energy in Singapore (2017); Replacement Fuels for Novel Engine Cycles (2018); Renewable Energy Resources in Vietnam (2019); Pathways Towards Climate Neutral Heating and Home Energy Usage in Germany (2020); Renewable Energy Options for Townships in South Africa (2021); Data Centre Energy Demand and Efficiency Analysis for Improved Energy Generation and Management Modelling (2022); Sustainability Assessment of Bio- And Oil-Based Plastics (2023). An Evaluation of the Potential for Green Hydrogen Production in Sarawak, Malaysia (2024).
