I am a microbiologist who studies pathogen evolution and natural mechanisms of pathogen persistence and development. Such information is crucial for preventing future pathogen emergence and informing policy to improve therapies and control measures. I use large sequence datasets to gain hypothetical insights into pathogen evolution and test these hypotheses with molecular biology and wet lab techniques.

Previously I have researched the persistent and multi-species pathogen Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium but am also interested in other microbes and their interactions, including bacteriophages, bacteriophage resistance mechanisms, horizontal gene transfer mechanisms, and more recently antimicrobial resistance and microbial ecology.

I'm at Imperial as a research assistant on a NERC funded project where we are looking at the microbial ecology and antimicrobial resistance gene content from the environment surrounding antimicrobial manufacturing plants in India.
