DrNeil Jennings

Neil is responsible for supporting the development of strategic partnerships with policy-makers, business and non-governmental organisations. He has a specific interest in the co-benefits of climate action – how tackling climate change can help create a cleaner, greener, fairer future and how these co-benefits can be better considered in the decision-making process. This has included research into public perceptions of co-benefits and how the health-related benefits of climate action can be better considered in the decision-making process in the UK. 

Neil is a founder member of the interdisciplinary Climate Cares Centre - a collaboration between Imperial and the University of Oxford focused on understanding and supporting mental health in the current climate and ecological crises. The team published a briefing paper on the impact of climate change on mental health in 2021 that has been covered by news outlets around the world and cited by the World Health Organisation. The team also led a Wellcome-funded project called Connecting Climate Minds that convened dialogues between climate change and mental health experts around the world culminating in a Global Research and Action agenda on climate change and mentl health. 

Neil also supports the PREPP team (Producing Rational Evidence for Parasiticide Prescription) which is focused on exploring and evaluating the environmental risks posed by veterinary medicine pollution. The team contributed to a recent inquiry by the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Select Committee.  

Neil has a PhD from the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research (UEA), a MSc from UCL in the Public Understanding of Environmental Change and a BA in Geography from the University of Cambridge. He was Managing Editor for the journal Global Environmental Change from 2005-2023 and an Associate Editor from 2020-2025. Within Imperial he lectures on the MSc Climate Change Management and Finance, BSc Global Health, Global Master of Public Health and the MSc International Health Management courses. Outside of work, Neil is trustee for a charity called the Reach Foundation which is trying to increase opportunities for young people in Feltham and increasingly around other parts of the UK.
