BIO
Nathan is a multi-disciplinary scientist working in the fields of energy, land use and climate change. He holds a BSc in Natural Sciences (first-class honours), an MSc in Energy Policy (with distinction), and a PhD in Energy Systems Modelling from Imperial College London.
Nathan's research centres around modelling solutions for decarbonising the global economy and mitigating climate change. Nathan's PhD applied the well-known Stabilization Wedge framework to estimate the climate impact of a diverse set of technological, behavioural, and natural climate solutions. Since then, he has worked on a variety of projects, including techno-economic assessments of hydrogen and energy storage technologies, modelling hourly energy demand globally, and quantifying the climate impacts of dietary change.
Nathan co-developed the Demand.ninja, an open web platform that lets you simulate hourly space heating and cooling demand in buildings, cities and nations across the world.
Nathan also works as a consultant at Imperial Consultants, where he contributes to the Electric Insights project's quarterly reports on the supply, demand, price and environmental impacts of Britain's electricity. Other project partners include SSE and the FCDO.
Nathan delivers lectures and seminars to students at the Centre for Environmental Policy and elsewhere across the College, and supervises several MSc students during their thesis term each year.
