ProfessorNagy Habib, ChM FRCS

Nagy Habib ChM, FRCS is a Professor of Surgery and active surgeon operating on patients with presenting pathology in the liver, pancreas and biliary system, a leading translational researcher in liver cancer and its treatment and he has founded several spin-out companies which developed innovative treatments for patients. He pioneered the first clinical trial in the use of adenovirus for the treatment of liver cancer, as well as the use of plasmid gene therapy for hydrodynamic gene delivery. He is the first person in the West to publish a clinical trial on the use of autologous adult bone marrow-derived stem cells and RNA activation for the treatment of patients with liver insufficiency and liver cancer. In June 2007 he was appointed a Pro Rector and member of the College Management Board. He held a gold award from the Advisory Committee for Clinical Excellence, which is given in recognition of exceptional contributions by NHS consultants. He is considered to be one of the top 5 global leading hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) and liver surgeons renowned for innovation (bloodless liver resection; Habib 4X surgical device) and translational impact in the field (development of saRNA drug (MTL-CEBPA).
