RESEARCH
The Centre for Sectoral Economic Performance (CSEP) is a new institute based at Imperial College and funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation. CSEP is an Institute that sits jointly in the Faculty of Engineering and the Business School. CSEP strives to contribute to the UK’s Economic Growth by employing rigorous academic research, the latest scientific and engineering knowledge with bottom-up business informed analysis to create innovative, meaningful, and actionable sector strategies to create growth in jobs and economic value add. CSEP looks at how the latest scientific, engineering, market and business model disruptions can offer up new market growth opportunities in which UK companies can be competitively advantaged. CSEP works closely with the business community of a sector to create business-owned, and actionable sector strategies for growth. The HealthTech Sector has been the first sector strategy plan that CSEP has contributed to working closely with the HealthTech business sector through the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI). The Institute’s first success came over the summer with the UK Government implementing one of the actions regarding the regulatory recognition of UK HealthTech devices that would allow for device adoption in other large markets outside of the UK such as the EU and USA. The Institute is about to embark next on the creation of sector strategies in the Fine Chemicals, Cyber Security, Automotive and Clean Energy sectors. Other sectors under study and of future interest to CSEP are BioPharma, AI Assurance, Data Centres, Mobility, AI impacts on the Insurance sector, Semiconductors, Electricity and Deep Tech.
