BIO

Dr. Nashwa Ismail is a Research Associate at the Centre for Higher Education Research and Scholarship (CHERS), Imperial College London, where she contributes to a project on Generative AI (GenAI) for teaching and learning in higher education. She holds an MSc and a PhD in Digital Education from the University of Southampton and is a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA). Dr. Ismail is an active member of the British Educational Research Association (BERA) Education Technology Special Interest Group and an Honorary Fellow at the School of Education, Durham University.
Her research has involved various roles in Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL) projects, with a particular focus on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Games-Based Learning (GBL). Her work has spanned countries including Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, Thailand, and the United States. In addition, Dr. Ismail has led and delivered workshops across the Global South—including Egypt, Kurdistan, and Thailand—equipping academics with the skills and knowledge needed to embed AI effectively in teaching and research practices. She is a qualitative researcher with experience in Thematic and Phenomenoligcal analysis methods using NVivo and Atlas ti. Dr. Ismail also has a parallel technical career. She is a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and a Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) with specialisation in Network and Database.
