RESEARCH
Overview
Dr Norris’ key publications include exploring the potential of new gene-environmental modulators that may contribute to understanding SCD phenotype through Space and Microgravity on SCD red blood cells. This work has led to acceptance of publication in Nature Genomic Medicine. Other work include identifying the need for refined blood transfusion in SCD; highlighting increased SCD autoimmunity, describing transitional needs as patients with SCD live longer and for medical science to address different ethnic group health disparities published in Nature Human Behaviour. He has been awarded a Springer book publishing contract ‘Handbook of Sickle Cell Disease’ which he is lead co-editor in partnership with Dr Kate Gardner, Dr Rachel Kesse-Adu and Prof. Julie Makani, targeting health professionals aiming to reduce management disparities in SCD.
Dr Norris recently founded a non-profit called The Physician Scientist which aims to develop research skills among young students at school, medical students, junior doctors, allied health professionals, nurses, and those from underrepresented backgrounds in medical science.
