Nikolaos Giakoumoglou's research focuses on Computer Vision and Deep Learning. Inspired by Yann LeCun's statement that "if intelligence is a cake, the bulk of the cake is unsupervised learning, the icing on the cake is supervised learning," he is interested in unsupervised and self-supervised learning. This work enhances representation learning, helping models to automatically understand and categorize unlabeled data, which is essential for improving accuracy in object detection, semantic segmentation, and image classification. Additionally, Nikolaos is exploring generative models, including diffusion processes, to create and manipulate images. His goal is to close the gap between human and machine perception.
