DrNur Amalina Che Bakri

Dr. Nur Amalina Che Bakri is an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow and Specialty Registrar at Imperial College London. Her research focuses on breast cancer surgery, artificial intelligence, radiomics, and wearable technology, with an emphasis on translating innovation into better patient outcomes.

She graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2013 with a medical degree, having also completed a BMedSc in Pharmacology and an ERASMUS exchange at Leiden University in the Netherlands. She undertook an internship at Harvard Medical School, USA, followed by foundation training in Cambridge, where she also completed a Master’s in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics at the University of Cambridge.

During her surgical training in London, Dr. Bakri was awarded the prestigious Darzi Clinical Research Fellowship. She has since completed her PhD in surgical innovation and breast cancer at Imperial College London, where she investigated the use of wearable technology to improve patient outcomes. Her PhD was funded by the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and supervised by Prof. Lord Ara Darzi, Mr. Daniel Leff, and Mr. Richard Kwasnicki. Her current NIHR-funded research builds on this work and focuses on developing an AI-based tool to predict patient outcomes in breast cancer. Alongside her research, she serves as an academic supervisor for BSc and MEng students at Imperial, has presented at numerous international conferences, and has published in high-impact journals.

Beyond her clinical and academic work, Dr. Bakri is a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and public health education. She actively shares medical knowledge on social media for medical students, junior doctors, and the public. She was appointed as an ambassador for Genomics England and has collaborated with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), NHS England and No. 10 Downing Street on national public health campaigns. She is frequently invited to speak at women’s empowerment and educational events and serves as a Co-lead of Girls4Girls UK, where she launched a national leadership programme to inspire young women to take on leadership roles.

Her contributions have been recognised with multiple honours, including being Highly Commended at the UK Women of the Future Awards (2021), the Inspirational Youth Award from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Malaysia, the Muslim National Award from the King of Malaysia, and recognised as one of the Asia Gen.T Leaders of Tomorrow.
