RESEARCH
Overview
As a well-trained MRI physicist with extensive research and teaching experience in both academic and industrial settings, Nicoleta played a pivotal role in the initial establishment of the Biological Imaging Centre. She has collaborated closely with scientists and clinicians from the NHLI, Cancer and Surgery, Bioengineering, Brain Sciences, and Chemistry departments, as well as with BIC members and CBS staff, contributing to a multitude of imaging projects. Nicoleta has ensured the successful implementation of 3Rs into all the projects contributing to the setting up of an interdisciplinary research environment at BIC. She has helped/ensured robust experimental design, contributed to the development of imaging procedures and protocols, and worked to establish a unified imaging database along with standardised imaging techniques that can be used to characterise a variety of disease models.
She actively incorporated imaging components into research projects, has helped collaborators to establish targeted imaging protocols, data acquisition, analysis and interpretation of results. Nicoleta has developed state of the art MRI techniques which enabled to obtain unique tissue damage information in multiple models of cardiovascular diseases. Importantly, she has made substantial efforts to establish sensitive, reliable and reproducible MRI metrics aiming to capture structural and functional changes of the heart with imaging.
