MissMillie Jackson

Millie Jackson is a 2020 graduate of Cardiff University with a First Class Honours in BSc Biomedical Sciences.

After graduating, Millie worked as a laboratory supervisor, performing next generation sequencing for infectious disease profiling and oncology profiling to identify actionable mutations in patient tumours.

Millie joined the Singanayagam Lab in July 2022 as a Research Assistant, before commencing her PhD with the group. Her research focuses on microbial dysbiosis in pulmonary immune responses. She leads translational research integrating human airway metagenomics with mechanistic mouse models to investigate how microbial commensals modulate innate immunity and viral susceptibility in chronic respiratory diseases. Alongside this, Millie designs and executes multi-institutional collaborative studies spanning computational microbiome analysis, immunological assays, and in vivo disease modelling. 

Following her interest in respiratory disease immunology, Millie is also currently working with collaborators on PROSAIC-19, a longitudinal study in a post-COVID-19 infected cohort. 

As a postgraduate Teaching Assistant and Supervisor, Millie delivers wet and dry laboratory tutorials in immunology and research methods, and manages Masters projects through weekly mentorship to successful completion. Since 2023, Millie has held various Postgraduate Student Representative and engagement roles at Imperial College London, including 3Rs Advisory Board, Faculty of Medicine PGR Representative and CBRB PGR Representative.
