RESEARCH
Overview
Research Interests -
Mathematical modelling and biorenewable system optimisation
Biorenewable process simulation and optimisation
Technology development for bio-waste recovery
Bio-manufacturing and supply chains
Life cycle sustainability assessment
RESEARCH PROJECT
Resilient and Sustainable Biorenewable Systems Engineering Model (ReSBio)
The EPSRC Fellowship project ‘ReSBio’ aims to develop an user-oriented integrated biorenewable system modelling framework and generate blueprints for the sustainable design and optimised mapping of biorenewable value chains, which can best adapt to and mitigate future changes, contribute to UK’s energy-water-waste infrastructure resilience and support sustainability and resilience agenda.
Bioenergy value chains: Whole systems analysis and optimisation
Dr Miao Guo is working with Prof Nilay Shah in this consortium project. This project aims to determine the bioenergy supply chains best supporting a technologically and economically efficient and environmentally friendly UK energy system. The overall modelling farmework accounts for a range of interrelated issues, including biomass, land use and conversion technologies, the interaction of bioenergy with other energy and non-energy systems (including food production) relying on the same resources, and the impacts on wider ecosystem services.
