BIO

Matthew is Head of Design in the Helix Centre, and design lead within the UK DRI Care Research & Technology Centre at Imperial. He brings a Human-Centred Design expertise to the research and technolgoy development aims of Centre.

Within Helix, he has led major projects bringing a Human-Centred Design approach to clinician and public facing healthcare challenges. Notably, he worked on the Hark app that was sold to DeepMind, and led the centre's End-of-Life care stream of work including the ReSPECT project and Digital Care Planning spin out. He has played a key role in shaping the Helix centre from its inception in 2014.

He is a graduate of Imperial College (Mechanical Engineering 2002) and the Royal College of Art (Industrial Design Engineering 2004). He was a Senior Research Associate at the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, leading several commercial and research council funded projects.

Prior to joining Helix he set up a design consultancy Studiohead Ltd working extensively with Imperial College to create groundbreaking innovations in surgical education and simulation.
