BSc in Biochemistry, University of Oxford 1976-1980.

PhD in Biochemistry, University of London, 1984

Post-doctoral work at Department of Biochemistry, Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine 1984-1987.

Joined Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital in 1987 as Lecturer in Biochemistry.

Promoted to Senior Lecturer within Imperial College London, 1998.

Fellowship of Higher Educational Academy, 2010

Professional interests
My research concentrated on the following topics:

The feto-maternal interface of human pregnancy

Biochemistry of the placenta, decidua and fetal membranes as isolated tissues.

The cross-talk between them that is required for normal human pregnancy.

The role of local oxygen tension in regulating tissue functions

Inflammatory processes and micro-organisms in preterm labour

In recent years I have become very much more involved in the organizing of College courses, and in teaching. This is now my main professional focus.

Course Director: MSc in Reproductive & Developmental Biology (1 year postgraduate course)

Head of year: Reproductive & Developmental Sciences (final year course for students taking BSc in Biomedical Science or taking BSc / MBBS (undergraduate medicine).

Academic module lead: Human Life Cycle (MBBS years 1 & 2); Reproductive Medicine (Graduate entry to Medicine year 1); Pregnancy (BSc Biomedical Science and MBBS final year); Pregnancy, Complicated pregnancy, Development (MSc in Reproductive & Developmental Biology)
