BIO
María Herrando was born in Teruel (Spain) in 1987. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree (BEng) in Chemical Engineering (graduated top of the year) in 2008, and a Master’s degree (MEng) in Industrial Engineering (graduated top of the year) in 2011, both by the University of Zaragoza, Spain. Then, she moved to London where she completed the MSc Sustainable Energy Futures at Imperial College London in 2012 with Distinction. She obtained the International PhD degree with Cum-Laude mention in October 2017 by the University of Zaragoza, with the PhD Thesis entitled "Analysis of Solar Hybrid PV-Thermal (PVT) Systems for Heat and Power Supply in Buildings".
Along with her educational and research background, She has nine years of professional experience (in LIFTEC (CSIC), FCC SA, CIRCE Foundation, Imperial College London, University of Zaragoza) in coordination, supervision and execution of collaborative R&D projects (Horizon 2020, FP7, etc.) in energy efficiency, renewable energies and multi-physics systems. She has undertaken different tasks including: management of the projects, technically and economically, coordination of the research groups and entities involved (as Project Coordinator), research and development, analysis and design, data gathering and evaluation of results. She also has nine years of experience in the preparation and submission of proposals for national and international funding calls and private tenders in the area of energy, with several of them being awarded. She has been awarded 3 National and 7 Regional prizes for her academic record and for her research. She authored 13 publications in peer-review international journals, 8 of which as first author (in Q1 journals), and 21 international peer-reviewed conference papers. She has participated in 5 European and 4 National Projects.
Her research involves the development and validation of models for multi-physics systems and energy efficiency simulation, as well as cost analyses and techno-economic optimisation of energy systems.
