Overview
Cryo-electron microscopy is a unique tool to study the three-dimensional (3D) structure of large macromolecules in different functional states. Many of the techniques now in worldwide use for elucidating the 3D structures biological complexes by "cryo-EM" have originated in our research group. Our research interests range from the continued development of cryo-EM methodology to the actual study of various complexes including the ribosome and icosahedral viruses. Our current methodology development is aimed at achieving resolution levels better than ~4Å such that the cryo-EM approach could be used for the de-novo determination of atomic models based purely on the resulting EM densities.
