BIO

I am a Senior Strategic Teaching Fellow in computational engineering at the Department of Aeronautics, where I am at the forefront of managing all facets of computing education within the department. I am also a Senior Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). I am interested in pedagogy and instructional design, especially using instructional tools and technological solutions to implement active learning in our classes.

During 2019-2023, I served as a Senior Strategic Teaching Fellow in Physics Education Innovation in the Department of Physics at Imperial College London, where I was involved in the blended learning project and focused on implementing active learning strategies and utilising technological tools to optimise the learning experience. In my role, I have been actively involved in creating, improving, and evaluating various online pre-class and in-class activities, aimed at enhancing conceptual understanding and promoting self-evaluation skills among students.

Before joining Imperial College in 2019, I was a lecturer in the Department of Physics at University College Cork, Ireland. I graduated with a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, and Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning in HE courses in UCC in 2017, 2018, and 2020, respectively. During the MA thesis, I researched the instructional tools for active learning in teaching Physics in a large classroom.

My research background is in Optics and Photonics. I was in Tyndall National Institute and UCC since 2008, when I started my PhD on dilute nitride semiconductors. My first postdoc was in the area of Nonlinear Dynamics of Coupled Semiconductor Lasers. Then I worked on the European Project PiezoMAT for two years, where I published the result of this work in the Nano Energy journal. In 2016 I joined the Integrated Photonics Group at Tyndall National Institute, where I worked on an SFI-funded project focusing on the interaction between the coupled lasers in a Photonic Integrated Circuit.
