ProfessorMadhav Mani

Madhav grew up in London, and after completing the mathematics tripos and Part III at DAMTP, Cambridge University, he pursued a PhD under the supervision of Michael Brenner and L. Mahadevan at Harvard University. Following this, he was a Simons Foundation Fellow at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics, working with Boris Shraiman. From 2015 to 2026, he was a faculty member at Northwestern University, focusing on the dynamics of living systems. Madhav moved to Imperial College London in 2026.

Madhav is broadly interested in the dynamics of living systems. He has worked on several aspects of plant and animal development, microbial ecology, and cell biology. He has nascent interests in protein evolution and hopes to think about evolution more broadly. The group's work involves long-term collaborations with experimental groups. Madhav has mentored students from a broad range of backgrounds and hopes to continue to do so. The approach the group has taken involves theory, computation, and experiments, hopefully, combined elegantly to provide insights into the mysteries of Life. More can be found at here.
