ProfessorMaia Lesosky

Professor Maia Lesosky is a leading biostatistician whose work focuses on the statistical analysis of complex health data, particularly in the areas of chronic respiratory diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. She is currently Professor and Chair of Medical Statistics in the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London, where she contributes to multiple interdisciplinary research initiatives.

Her research includes the development of advanced statistical methodologies to investigate models for respiratory conditions, including tuberculosis and lower respiratory tract infections. Professor Lesosky currently plays a central role in the iTARA research programme—an international collaboration focused on addressing respiratory disease in Africa through innovative, multi-disciplinaryapproaches. She has experience leading the design and analysis of clinical trials and observational epidemiology studies and has led research programmes funded by NIH, NIHR and EDCTP as principal investigator.

Her international partnerships support capacity-building and evidence generation for improved public health outcomes across low- and middle-income countries.

Professor Lesosky earned her PhD in Statistics from the University of Guelph, Canada, and has previously held academic positions at the University of Cape Town and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. In recognition of her research excellence, she currently holds a prestigious Academy of Medical Sciences Professorship.
