BIO
Michaela Flegrová is a postdoctoral researcher in the Space, Plasma and Climate community in the Physics Department, working on the evaluation of the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR) product. Her research focuses on assessing the accuracy and stability of satellite-derived OLR fluxes through intercomparisons with GERB and CERES datasets, with the aim of improving understanding of algorithm performance across viewing angles, scene types, and atmospheric conditions.
She completed her PhD in Physics at Imperial College London in 2025, where she investigated the effects of African landscape fires on surface albedo and the surface shortwave radiative balance using satellite observations. Her thesis quantified the radiative and thermal impacts of post-fire surface changes across land cover types and timescales.
Michaela also holds an MSci in Physics from Imperial College London (2020), where she applied machine learning to improve the detection of atmospheric blocking events and explored their link to European heatwaves.
