BIO
Andrei is a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Physics, where his work focuses on developing optical parametric amplifier and parametric generation sources based on different nonlinear optical crystals for frequency conversion in the mid-wave infrared region. He collaborates with the US Air Force Research Labs in Ohio and had the opportunity to visit AFRL to build and optimize multistage parametric down-conversion source, wavelength tuneable in the mid-infrared. Previously, he obtained a PhD in physics in Germany, with work focused on femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy of ultrafast molecular dynamics in solution. His BEng and MSc studies in applied engineering physics and biophysics were completed in Romania, where he worked as a student research assistant on the structure-property relationship in organic semiconducting polymers for flexible electronics.
