Matteo Ciocca is a Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in Movement Disorders and Clinical and Experimental Neurophysiology.
He completed his PhD in 2025 at Imperial College London with a thesis entitled "Postural Control and Sensory Gating: Neurophysiological Insights from Healthy and Neurological Subjects", under the supervision of Dr Yen Tai and Dr Seemungal. He joined the Neuro-otology group in May 2020, contributing to translational research at the interface of motor physiology and clinical neurology.
Matteo's primary clinical and research expertise lies in MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) for the treatment of movement disorders. His broader research interests include the neurophysiological mechanisms underpinning motor control and sensorimotor integration, investigated through non-invasive techniques such as electromyography, startle reflex paradigms, and vestibular stimulation.
He also has a continuing interest in non-invasive neuromodulatory interventions, including repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), and galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS), with a focus on their application in both experimental and clinical settings.
