BIO
Martin Bourhis is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London in the United Kingdom. As an experimental fluid dynamicist specialising in wind energy, his research interests lie in the area of aerodynamics, turbulent flows, and engineering to address the emerging critical challenges in wind energy science. His PhD research was focused on the aerodynamics of wind turbines, energy conversion, and blade design. In his current position, his research aims at providing a better understanding and modelling of turbulent wakes produced by wind turbines, which is crucial for developing accurate wind-farm optimisation tools. His research relies mainly on experimental methods, combining laser-based techniques with high spatio-temporal resolution measurements to examine rotor aerodynamics and turbulent flow dynamics. Fuelled by a profound enthusiasm for education, he has actively participated in teaching activities at various levels and has been involved in numerous science outreach and awareness initiatives.
