BIO
Luke is a postdoctoral Research Associate in the Centre for Higher Education Research and Scholarship (CHERS). His ongoing interest in the student experience stems from his previous roles as Deputy President (Education) at Imperial College Union, Graduate Students' Union President and Hall Warden at Wilson House. Luke built on these experiences in his doctorate, in which he developed a mixed methods approach which used occupancy monitoring technology and qualitative methods to explore how undergraduate students engage with and perceive transitions and learning spaces.
Luke has applied his research to inform and evaluate a number of learning space changes at Imperial College, including the £1 million transformation of Blackett's Lecture Theatre 2. He has also partnered with staff and students to redesign and implement over five transitional learning spaces across Imperial's campuses under the StudentShapers scheme. Luke organised the inaugural Imperial Learning Space Symposium (ILSS) 2025 and has ambitions to develop the reserach community interested in learning spaces.
Luke continues to develop his knowledge of the student experience as a researcher in the Social Ties and Student Lives Project. He is interested in how the learning environment, notably campus spaces and halls of residence, impact student belonging and learning.
