DrLouis Koizia

Dr Louis Koizia is a consultant physician and geriatrician with interests in the care of older surgical patients, research and medical education.

His specialist expertise includes orthogeriatrics: the multidisciplinary care of older adults with fragility fractures. He works closely with surgical and rehabilitation teams to prepare patients for surgery, manage complex medical needs and support recovery. His approach considers each patient’s health, independence and personal priorities, with an emphasis on coordinated care throughout their hospital stay and beyond.

As a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London, his research examines how care can be improved throughout the hip-fracture pathway, from admission and surgery to rehabilitation. His interests include delirium prevention, medication safety, early mobilisation and communication between teams. His research uses big data to explore patterns in the care of older patients, understand variation in outcomes and identify opportunities to improve clinical practice.

Dr Koizia is actively involved in medical education, with a particular interest in preparing clinicians to care for older people with complex needs. 

He collaborates with colleagues across Imperial’s Faculties of Engineering and Medicine and NHS trusts, bringing together clinical and research perspectives to address challenges in the care of older people.
