DrLorainne Tudor Car

I am an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Primary Care and Public Health at Imperial College London. My research centres on digital health, digital health professions education and health data science. I was previously an Assistant Professor of Evidence-Based Medicine at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), a joint medical school between Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of holding various roles. I was a Senior Clinician Scientist at the Institute for Mental Health, Singapore, a Visiting Scientist in Health Systems and eHealth at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a Clinical and General Adviser at the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research Design Service. I am an Editor for the Cochrane Public Health Group and an editorial board member for the Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR) and JMIR Medical Education. Additionally, I led a global evidence synthesis initiative for the World Health Organization focused on digital learning for healthcare workforce development.

After earning my medical degree and completing an internship, I pursued a PhD focusing on the integration of public health interventions into health systems. My work included an evidence synthesis and modelling of the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission uptake cascade, significantly influencing UNICEF’s consultations on women's and children's health. I furthered my education with an Executive MSc in Health Economics, Policy and Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

I have published 113 journal articles spanning various methodologies such as evidence synthesis, qualitative research, methodological work, pilot trials, and observational and modelling studies in the following complementary fields:
• Digital health
I am interested in leveraging digital technology to improve health and well-being. This includes projects on using conversational agents or chatbots to manage prediabetes and mental health.
• Digital health professions education
My research focuses on the use of different digital education modalities and tools to enhance the training and development of healthcare professionals, including virtual reality, mobile learning and digital problem-based learning.
• Health data science
I contribute to the Global Burden of Diseases (GBD) studies, which aim to assess mortality and disability from major diseases, injuries, and risk factors in different populations.
