BIO
I graduated in Mathematics from the University of Oxford in 1989, and then trained and worked as a well engineer for Shell in the Netherlands. The two-year training period involved working on offshore and land drilling rigs whilst completing the Round 2 Well Engineering exams. I then designed and was the drilling operations engineer for several onshore extended-reach gas production wells. After moving back to the UK I worked in multidisciplinary teams on Shell's joint ventures and evaluating new business opportunities.
Following a career break I returned to mathematics and attained an MSc from the University of Western Australia, and a PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London.
I joined Imperial's Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2015, where I am currently a Principal Teaching Fellow. I teach mathematics, fluid mechanics and design & manufacture to the Mechanical Engineering students. I completed an MEd in University Learning and Teaching through Imperial's Educational Development Unit, and as the department's Undergraduate Admissions Tutor I direct and oversee our undergraduate recruitment and selection activities.
