BIO
Leonie Powley is the Manager of the Imperial College Healthcare Tissue and Biobank (ICHTB). The ICHTB infrastructure enables Imperial researchers to collect, store and use human tissue appropriately under a single Human Tissue Authority (HTA) license and Ethics approval. Leonie manages a team of laboratory technicians and professional and technical staff responsible for collection, processing and biobanking of tissue; despatch of tissue for research purposes, quality management and the management of the ICHTB database.
Leonie was previously Head of Quality for the Cambridge Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CCTL); an HTA licensed regional clinical laboratory serving patients in the East of England. The laboratory delivered cell based transplantation products and medicines such as Peripheral Blood Stem Cells and Chimaeric Antigen Receptor T cells; used in the treatment of haematological malignancies.
Leonie is a Clinical Scientist in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics and is registered with the Health Care and Professions Council; having completed her training in the Cambridge Tissue Typing Laboratory.
Leonie has a PhD from University College London and worked in NHS Blood and Transplant under the supervision of Dr Cristina Navarrete. Her thesis is titled "Noninherited Maternal HLA Antigens (NIMA): Donor availability and clinical outcome in Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation."
