RESEARCH

Leila is generally interested in enhancing trial efficiency and conducting innovative adaptive trials in the critical care setting, aiming to improve trial success in this field. Specifically, her methodological research focuses on:

• Employing Bayesian approaches to design adaptive trials;
• Investigating efficient methods for handling mortality when it is not the primary outcome;

• Outcome selection and estimand strategies in critical care trials;

• Exploring the potential use of SMART designs in critical care trials;

and
• Patient and public involvement in the development of innovative trial designs and trial methodology

Through her NIHR Development and Skills Enhancement Fellowship, Leila investigated methodological and operational challenges affecting the success and efficiency of critical care trials, bringing together evidence from methodological reviews, surveys, qualitative research and patient and public involvement.

Alongside her methodological research, Leila provides statistical leadership across a portfolio of clinical trials and contributes to the design and implementation of adaptive, group-sequential and Bayesian trials. Her work aims to bridge methodological development and practical trial delivery, ensuring that innovative statistical approaches are both rigorous and feasible to implement in real-world clinical trials.
