DrLeila Janani

Leila Janani is an Advanced Research Fellow and Senior Clinical Trials Statistician at the Imperial Clinical Trials Unit (ICTU), where she is Deputy Head of Trial Methodology. She has over 14 years of experience in the design, analysis and delivery of clinical trials and health research.

Leila’s research focuses on developing and applying innovative, efficient and patient-centred approaches to clinical trial design, particularly in critical care and other complex clinical settings. She was awarded an NIHR Development and Skills Enhancement (DSE) Fellowship to undertake methodological research addressing key challenges in the design and implementation of critical care trials.

At ICTU, Leila leads and contributes to the statistical design and oversight of a portfolio of clinical trials, including adaptive, group-sequential and Bayesian designs. She also contributes to methodological research aimed at improving the efficiency, inclusivity and relevance of randomised clinical trials.

Leila co-leads the ICTU Contemporary Clinical Trials course with Professor Victoria Cornelius, providing practical training in modern clinical trial methodology. She is a member of the NIHR Statistics Working Group on Improving Statistical Literacy and serves as an independent statistician on several Trial Steering Committees and Data Monitoring Committees.

Before joining Imperial College London in 2021, Leila was an Assistant and subsequently Associate Professor of Biostatistics at Iran University of Medical Sciences. She also led the Biostatistics Unit at the Clinical Trial Centre at Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
