DrLydia Finney

Lydia Finney is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine at Imperial College London and a Honorary Respiratory Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Her research and clinical interests are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and respiratory infections.

Dr Finney graduated from University of Wales College of Medicine with an intercalated degree in Physiology. Her junior doctor training included posts several central London teaching hospitals including the Royal Brompton, St Marys and Hammersmith Hospitals. She was awarded a NIHR Academic Clinical Research Fellowship prior to undertaking a PhD at Imperial College London under the supervision of Professor Wisia Wedzicha. She was subsequently awarded an NHLI Academic Clinical Lectureship in 2020 and was appointed as a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine at Imperial College in 2023.

Dr Finney leads a translational research group focusing on COPD exacerbations with a focus on exacerbation recovery and resolution of airway inflammation. Her research has been funded by Academy of Medical Sciences, MRC, NIHR and NHLI Foundation. She is the UK Chief Investigator of the ID:Drive Respriatory Infection Surveillance study and is local PI for several NIHR and commercial trials.

Dr Finney is Leader of the Early Career Group and Deputy Editor of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. She is a Consultant  member of the British Thoracic Society Specialist Advisory Group for COPD. As well as a member of the NIHR Translational Research Committee for COPD Research, National Respiratory Audit Programme COPD Bundle Committee and COPD UK Conference Commitee Co-Chair.

Dr Finney has a keen interest in medical education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is module lead for the Respiratory Failure Module on the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Healthcare MSc at Imperial College London and supervises PhD students as well as MSc students and BSc students.
