Laure de Preux is an Associate Professor of Health and Environmental Economics at Imperial College Business School in the Department of Economics and Public Policy. She is affiliated with the Centre for Health Economics & Policy Innovation (CHEPI) and the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment at Imperial College London. She is a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Advisory Group on Economics for Environment, Climate Change and Health, and a Research Fellow in the Climate Change and Environment programme at CEPR. Laure also co-chairs the EDI Committee at Imperial College Business School.

Her research interests span environmental and health economics. In health economics, she has done research on moral hazard, the determinants of health, the modelling of heatlhcare demand and costs, and health economic evaluations. Within environmental economics, her work has examined environmentally related managerial practices and their impact on energy use and financial performance, as well as the effects of environmental taxes and carbon pricing on business behaviour and outcomes.

At the intersection of climate and health, Laure has analysed healthcare system vulnerability to climate variation, air quality impacts, and risk for vulnerable populations. Her current projects focus on how climate influences health-related behaviours and the health co-benefits of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme. She also works on consumer willingness to pay for ethical and sustainable products.

Before joining Imperial College Business School, Laure completed a Master in Business at HEC Lausanne and an MSc in Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She earned her PhD in Economics at the University of York under the supervision of Prof. Hugh Gravelle. She worked at the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics between 2008 and 2016.

Laure received the Erik Kempe Award in 2015 in Environmental and Resource Economics from the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, awarded biennially for the best paper in the field. She received the Teaching Excellence Award for PhD supervision in 2017 and the Teaching Excellence Award for undergraduate teaching in 2018. In 2025, she was awarded the Imperial Business School Staff Award for Good Citizenship, and the Dean’s Award for Integrity.
