ProfessorLuigi Camporota

Professor Camporota teaches respiratory physiology, mechanical ventilation, acute respiratory failure and extracorporeal life support at local, national and international levels.

At Imperial, his teaching physiology and critical care for BSc, and MRES, and MSc. 

His teaching commitments include bedside clinical education, research supervision and the supervision of doctoral candidates working on mechanical ventilation, ECMO and cardiorespiratory physiology.

Nationally, he has contributed to postgraduate critical care education through high-fidelity simulation in mechanical ventilation and ECMO, national critical care training programmes, and the annual Advanced Modalities of Respiratory Support meeting at the Royal Society of Medicine, for which he has served as Scientific Director.

Internationally, he is Co-Director of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine Acute Respiratory Failure and Mechanical Ventilation Pathway. This progressive programme provides Foundation, Transition and Advanced training through online education, clinical application and simulation. He is also faculty for the joint ESICM and EuroELSO Advanced Course in Extracorporeal Life Support and Director of the ECMO Academy at the SMART Meeting in Milan, which combines physiology-based teaching, interactive cases and practical training in ECMO management.
