BIO

Laura Burgess is a is a Clinical Trial Manager within the Department of Surgery and Cancer in the academic section of vascular surgery at Imperial College London.  She is a Biomedical Science graduate from the University of Warwick and completed her MSc in Clinical Trials at the University of Edinburgh in 2019. She has over 10 years’ experience of conducting clinical research in both academic and commercial clinical trials. She has worked in various therapeutic areas including vascular surgery, cardiovascular, oncology and infectious diseases. As a Clinical Trial Manager, Laura assists in all aspects of clinical trial conduct, from initial design through to successful delivery and dissemination of results. Laura has been a co-applicant on several grant applications for large, multi-centre clinical trials.

 

She is currently co-managing the NIHR-funded multi-centre, assessor-blind randomised controlled trial thromboprophylaxis in individuals undergoing superficial endovenous treatment (THRIVE).

 

Laura’s previous research includes the NIHR-funded multicentre, randomised controlled trial NESIC, which evaluated whether neuromuscular electrical stimulation improved the walking distance in patients with intermittent claudication compared to best available treatment, which has recently been published in the British Journal of Surgery. Other work includes the NIHR-funded diagnostic accuracy study, DM PAD, which aimed to determine the diagnostic performance of index tests for the diagnosis of PAD in patients with diabetes.
