BIO
Lydia Boynton is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Anatomy, with the role of Lead for Phase 1 Clinical Anatomy for the undergraduate MBBS programme at Imperial College London. In this strategic role, Lydia oversees the teaching and assessment of clinical anatomy across Phase 1, ensuring alignment with contemporary medical practice and educational standards. She is passionate about delivering anatomy education that is clinically relevant, inclusive, and engaging for all learners.
In addition, Lydia is the Anatomy Lead for Curriculum Development at the newly established Pears Cumbria School of Medicine, where she has led the design of the anatomy curriculum over the past three years. With the school now open, Lydia is transitioning into the delivery phase, shaping anatomy teaching to meet the needs of postgraduate medical students. Her work focuses on preparing students for clinical practice through innovative and responsive curriculum design.
Lydia’s recent research explores the use of mixed reality technologies to support neuroanatomy learning, and she is a strong advocate for integrating clinical imaging, including ultrasound, into anatomy education from the earliest stages of medical training. Her teaching philosophy centres on making anatomy exciting, accessible, and directly applicable to clinical contexts.
Prior to these roles, Lydia was a Strategic Teaching Fellow in Phase 1 Curriculum Review for Anatomy and Diagnostics at Imperial College London, where she contributed to the evaluation and implementation of the new medical curriculum.
Lydia holds a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science from the University of Sheffield, where she focused on epilepsy pathophysiology and novel treatments. She later completed an MSc (Hons) in Human Anatomy with Education, also at Sheffield, gaining expertise in gross, functional, neuro, and clinical anatomy, alongside training in higher education pedagogy. Her master’s thesis investigated gender imbalance in STEM within higher education and its impact on staff and student experiences.
