BIO
Koon-Yang is Professor in Polymer Engineering at Imperial College London. He currently leads the Future Materials Group, a young and dynamic research group consisting of 'multilingual' scientists and engineers proficient in the development of chemical engineering-driven materials innovations to create a sustainable future. His research is highly interdisciplinary across the fields of materials chemistry, chemical engineering, physics and materials engineering, underpinned by the core research principles of simple design, manufacturability and radical effects.
The focus and application areas of his research group include:
(i) Nanocellulose-derived advanced composite materials
(ii) Cellulose and lignocellulose-derived sustainable materials
(iii) Valorisation of waste into engineering materials
(iv) Porous polymeric materials
He is the recipient of the 2022 American Chemical Society (ACS) Cellulose and Renewable Materials (CELL) Division KINGFA Young Investigator Award, an award recognising the outstanding contributions of young investigators under the age of 40 to the science and chemical technology of cellulose and renewable materials.
You can find out more about his research activities by visiting his research group's website. Some of his research achievements can also be found in his videos.
