BIO

Dr Kanika Dharmayat is a Research Associate in Public Health at Imperial College London, working within both the Imperial Centre for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (ICCP) and the Ethnicity and Health Unit (EHU) of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Northwest London.

The ICCP focuses on identifying the key drivers of cardiovascular disease and developing scalable, population-level solutions that can shape clinical guidelines and public health policy. The EHU collaborates closely with a network of community-facing organisations to support ethnically diverse populations, aiming to generate impactful research that leads to tangible health improvements in real-world settings.

Kanika brings an interdisciplinary background spanning epidemiology, implementation research, public health policy, and digital health innovation. Her research centres on the prevention and early detection of lipid disorders. She completed her PhD at Imperial College London, where she explored the global epidemiology and policy context of familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH). Her work has been published in The Lancet and contributed to recommendations endorsed by the European Commission on paediatric FH screening as a strategy to prevent non-communicable diseases. She has presented at numerous international conferences, to the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Austrian Atherosclerosis Society, and FH Europe Foundation.

Kanika has over a decade of experience in global health research, with expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. She has led and contributed to several high-impact international studies (>1,100 citations and h-index=13).

In her teaching role, Kanika leads the Digital Health module within the Master’s in Public Health (MPH) programme, contributed to curriculum development and has supervised several MPH students through their dissertation research projects.
