BIO

Kieran obtained his PhD in malaria immunity from Imperial College London in 2001. He began research into acute inflammation and organ injury during sepsis at the Kennedy Institute for Rheumatology and then at Chelsea Westminster Hospital, Imperial College Campus. He has published a broad range of articles related to sepsis and severe burns injury, particularly on the role of monocytes as orchestrators of acute lung injury. His research is currently focussed on the emerging roles of extracellular vesicles in critical care-related disease, investigating their intravascular trafficking and roles as drivers and modulators of acute lung injury, and their interactions with extra-corporeal blood support circuits.

He is Pathway Director for the iBSc in Anaesthesia and Critical Care.
