ProfessorKarim Meeran

After qualifying from the Royal Free Hospital in 1988 I trained in Endocrinology at Hammersmith Hospital and St Bartholomew's Hospital. I am now Professor of Endocrinology, Deputy Director of Medical Education and Lead Clinician for Endocrinology, and have established a strong clinical and educational link with the Abu Dhabi Imperial College London Diabetes Centre.

My aim is to improve undergraduate teaching for the Faculty of Medicine while continuing to be a major contributor to basic research. My professional goal is to develop improved methods of education and ensure that the next generation of doctors are the best in the country. We need to improve practical effectiveness in bringing the next generation of doctors up to, and to be able to maintain the high standard of knowledge and performance the public expects. My vision is that we train the next generation of clinical academics for the country, and we thus need to enthuse our young ST3s in the importance of research. As a clinical academic and a medically qualified and accredited educationalist, I am uniquely placed to deliver these aims.
