RESEARCH
Current research is related to methods that are useful in calibrating mechanistic models for pharmaceutical process development. This includes methods for selecting and estimating parameters in a model from limited experimental data, methods for quantifying the uncertainty in parameter estimates and propagating this uncertainty into model predictions, and methods for optimising experiment designs to refine model predictions. Applications include model-based experiment design for in vitro transcription of RNA constructs and the analysis of experiment campaigns for calibrating thermal stability models.
Earlier research in energy systems planning involved the use of optimisation models for the design of energy supply and distribution networks in urban areas to improve their efficiency and environmental impact. Related work included the development of methods to generate alternatives to the optimal solution, and methods to quantify the impact of individual generation technologies and energy saving measures in an integrated energy system. Applications include the design of district heating networks and modelling the interaction between heat and electricity networks in low carbon energy systems.
