As the Department of Bioengineering Technical Operations Manager Ken has overall responsibility for the strategy, leadership, management and delivery of high-quality technical services. As well as this Ken is the Departmental Safety Officer and leads on space planning and project coordination to ensure the most optimal use of our space to support our staff and students.
• Provide leadership, develop and deliver strategy, policy, and procedures related to the delivery of technical services - supporting all research areas and practical-based undergraduate classes in science and engineering.
• Establish an agenda of professionalisation within technical services such that technical staff are supported and developed, and are recognised both internally and externally as qualified specialists.
• A member of the college Technical commitment steering group and national technical development and career pathway projects.
• Management and strategy of Core Faculties, including financing, marketing and comms.
• Develop strategies for space utilisation and optimisation. Oversee the maintenance and development of the departmental estate
• As user-coordinator lead on the technical aspects of major projects (e.g. new buildings, building refurbishments, moves, transfers and relocations)
• Champion a culture of sustainability and actively seek innovation
• Ensure the continuous improvement, optimisation and innovation of relevant systems and processes.
• As Departmental Safety Officer, ensure consistent and robust health and safety related policies, systems and procedures are in place. Lead on departmental Safety matters.
• Represent the department, faculty and college on relevant committees and projects, ensuring development of technical provision and staff at the University to drive up standards and ensure the delivery of a nationally excellent technical service.
• Part of the University Technical Commitment and apprenticeship steering groups. Deliver on actions specified in the Technician Commitment Action Plan.
Based across the departmental Estate in both South Kensington (Bessemer, RSM, RCS1) and White City (Uren, I-Hub).
