DrKabelan Karunaseelan

Dr Kabelan Karunaseelan is a Research Associate in the Biomechanics Research Group at Imperial College London. His research focuses on developing surgical technologies to make minimally invasive procedures safer and more precise.

Kabelan is currently leading the development of a real-time tissue identification technology designed to help surgeons distinguish critical tissues during surgery and reduce the risk of unintended injury. His work has attracted over £1 million in translational funding and engagement from leading medical device companies, with the technology now progressing towards commercialisation.

His research has been recognised with awards from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS). Prior to his research career, Kabelan worked in the medical device industry, developing drug delivery devices and novel manufacturing processes for contact lenses.

Kabelan completed his PhD in Orthopaedic Biomechanics at Imperial College London, where his research focused on improving our understanding of hip joint biomechanics.
