BIO
I am a Honorary Senior Lecturer (UK equivalent to Associate Professor) at the Department of Bioengineering, where I lead the Behaviour and Neural Dynamics Lab (Be.Neural) Lab, a multidisciplinary team of researchers working at the intersection between systems neuroscience and neural engineering. I am currently based at the Champalimaud Centre for Unknown in Lisbon where the lab has move to.
My lab primarily focuses on understanding how the brain and the spinal cord learn and control behaviour. Our experiments revolve around questions in motor control, but we also collaborate with researchers investigating other aspects of behaviour. In addition, we are interested in leveraging this knowledge and develop neural interfaces that restore movement to people with motor disability, especially Parkinson’s disease, tremor, and paralysis. The team pursues these goals based on a combination of behavioural experiments, high-yield neural recordings, data analysis techniques, and computational models.
Our research is funded by the European Research Council (ERC), the European Commission Horizon Programme, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Advanced Research+Invention Agency (ARIA), InBrain Neuroelectronics, and Meta Reality Labs.
