BIO

Dr. Jónas Oddur Jónasson is an associate professor of Analytics and Operations and the academic director of the MSc Global Health Management programme at Imperial College London. He serves as an associate editor for Management Science and IISE Transactions on Healthcare Systems Engineering.

His research focuses on improving decentralized healthcare delivery systems—through (1) process design & optimization; (2) analytics & data-driven decision-making; and (3) understanding people-centric drivers of operational performance. He is interested in operational challenges related to healthcare delivery in resource-limited settings, particularly with applications to global health delivery, behavioral health interventions, health policy, and emergency medical services. Finally, he is passionate about his research having a real impact on operational practice.

His research has been published in Operations Research, Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, and BMJ Global Health. He was awarded the Bonder Scholarship for applied Operations Research in Health Services (2014) and received first prizes in the MSOM student paper competition (2014), the M&SOM Practice-Based Research Competition (2021), and the William Pierskalla competition for best paper in Healthcare Management Science (2024). He was also a finalist for the Sanjay and Panna Mehrotra Research Excellence award (2021) and the MSOM Society Award for Responsible Research (2019 and 2024).

Prior to joining Imperial Business School, he was an associate professor of Operations Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He received his PhD in Management Science and Operations from London Business School, an MPhil from the University of Cambridge, an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BSc from the University of Iceland.
