Emeritus ProfessorJim Williamson

Prof Williamson is a Distinguished Research Fellow in the Department of Materials. He joined the Metallurgy Department as a Research Fellow in 1965, having obtained a BSc in Chemistry from Nottingham University and an MSc and PhD from Aberdeen University. His teaching has largely been concerned with the chemical and structural aspects of non-metallic materials, while his research activities have been directed towards the production and properties of glasses, ceramics and glass-ceramics materials, and the use of chemical thermodynamics to understand the high temperature chemical reactions and transformation processes.
Prof Williamson has over 140 publications in the technical literature.
