BIO
James became a member of the RSE team in April 2023. His experience ranges from numerical methods and dynamical systems to machine learning and neuromorphic computing.
As an academic, he obtained a PhD in the analysis of numerical error propagation in spiking neural network simulations, and continued investigating training algorithms for vision spiking neural networks. In pursuit of neuromorphic vision datasets, he enjoyed finding outside-the-box solutions for automated data generation involving specialist software and hardware such as 3D tracking systems and event-based cameras. His background in numerical simulation inspired his interest in heterogeneous computing systems utilising, for example, graphics processor units and neuromorphic chips.
