BIO
My research aims to use insights from human genetics to inform the development of pharmacological interventions for chronic disease prevention and treatment. I am particularly interested in exploring shared pathophysiological mechanisms linking cardiometabolic disease and cancer risk and consequent opportunities for drug repurposing and joint disease prevention. Prior to obtaining my PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Bristol in 2020, I completed an MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and then worked for two years as a Research Assistant with the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
I am PI on a 3-year Cancer Research UK Prevention and Population Research Project Award using genetic, observational, and molecular approaches to understand mechanisms linking excess adiposity to pancreatic cancer risk. I am also a Co-PI on a 1-year Cancer Research UK Early Detection and Diagnosis Primer Award which aims to use Reverse Mendelian randomization to identify novel early detection biomarkers for cancer.
