BIO
Dr Jingwen Weng is an Imperial College Research Fellow (ICRF) in the Department of Materials, where she has established an independent research career. Her research focuses on battery degradation mechanisms, with a particular focus on gas evolution and electrolyte-driven pathways. She also employs physics-based modelling to provide a fundamental understanding of electrochemical–thermal behaviour. Her knowledge in phase-change materials and heat-transfer dynamics enables the development of innovative solutions for battery module-level thermal management to improve battery safety and reliability.
Before her promotion to ICRF, she was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, as part of the Electrochemical Science & Engineering (ESE) Group. Dr Weng is passionate about fundamental research, especially in understanding how batteries operate and how they degrade over time. She is equally enthusiastic about engineering-driven solutions, including the optimisation of materials to energy device.
She is a Co-Investigator of the project THAI-BATT (sponsored by the Faraday Institution, 2025.07–2026.09) and also works closely with several industry sponsors.
